Ragged School Museum

This half term we’ll be looking at the women behind the man - from Dr Barnardo’s loyal wife Sara and their outrageous daughter Syrie, to fellow philanthropists like Angela Burdett-Coutts and Annie MacPherson. You’ll be able to learn how Barnardo was inspired to open his first home for girls, why his daughter Syrie was the talk of the town and what he learned from the many female philanthropists of the East End.

There’ll be lots of activities for the kids including building origami boats and decorating your own Victorian rooms! Our Victorian Classroom and East End Kitchen will be open to explore, as will the Raggamuffins Room, our Under 5’s play area.

The Museum offers free activities every Wednesday & Thursday throughout the school holidays. Although the themes for the holidays change throughout the year, you can always expect the following:

Doors open 10:00am
For children 1-12 yrs old
Cafe serving light snacks only (you are welcome to bring your own lunch)
Three floors of galleries and displays
Art room
Play spaces for children under 6 years old
Professional artists, historic objects, local people and friendly faces
Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult
