History Talks
The Ragged School Museum’s buildings once housed London’s largest school for poor Victorian children. Find out what life would have been like for the children who attended the school in a fascinating illustrated talk.

Our talk, which lasts forty minutes, is suitable for groups of all ages, from family history societies, social history classes, U3A & WI groups and students studying education or social history.
The Museum’s lively session covers the history of this Ragged School, which was set up by Dr Barnardo and opened in 1877, and its impact on the local population.
Bring a group to a talk and you’ll have a chance to sit at a real old desk, see pictures of children who attended the ragged school and hear about the lessons that they were taught.
There will also be an opportunity to look around the Museum’s galleries and visit the café and shop.
Sessions can be booked for any weekday from 2:45pm onwards, at a cost of £4.00 per head. Some other times may also be available. Talks take place in the Museum’s reconstructed Victorian Classroom.
Please contact the Museum on 020 8980 6405 if you would like to book a session.
